Lesson 1: Why We Move

Learning Intentions

  • Understand how physical activity helps our health and mood
  • Recognise different types of physical activity

Success Criteria
✔ Identify at least three reasons movement is important
✔ Actively participate in all movement activities

Warm-Up (10 mins):

  • “Move Like Me” – Students mirror the teacher’s movements (e.g., swimming arms, kangaroo hops, koala crawling).

Activity 1 (15 mins):

  • “Movement Mix-Up” – Stations with different physical activities (jumping rope, balancing, throwing bean bags). Students rotate every 2 mins.

Mini Discussion (5 mins):

  • Sit in a circle. Ask: “How did that feel?” “Which activity made your heart beat faster?” “Why do we move?”

Main Activity (15 mins):

  • Body Map: Draw an outline of the body. In groups, students label parts impacted by exercise (e.g., heart = stronger, lungs = more air).

Cooldown (5 mins):

  • Walk It Out + light stretching.

Lesson 2: Let’s Include Everyone

Learning Intentions

  • Identify how to include others in games
  • Recognise feelings when left out/included

Success Criteria
✔ Demonstrate inclusive behaviours
✔ Share ideas for including others

Warm-Up (5 mins):

  • Everyone starts alone on the court. Prompt students with “Find someone…” (with the same colour shoes, favourite sport, etc.)

Activity 1 (10 mins):

  • “Snowball Relay” – Teams of 4 pass a soft ball over/under/down the line. Encourage new team formations each round.

Main Activity (25 mins):

  • “Inclusion Explorers”: Class is split in 4 mini-teams. Each group invents one rule or way to make a game more inclusive (e.g., “everyone must touch the ball before scoring”).

Reflection (10 mins):

  • What helped people feel included today? Teachers write student feedback on a “Wall of Inclusion”.

Lesson 3: Team Talk

Learning Intentions

  • Understand how positive words motivate teammates
  • Practise using positive language in games

Success Criteria
✔ Use kind words during games
✔ Encourage others when they face challenges

Warm-Up (10 mins):

  • “Compliment Circle” – Students toss a ball; whoever catches shares a team-based compliment.

Main Game (25 mins):

  • “Bean Bag Blitz”: Teams collect beanbags spread around court. One team member is blindfolded while others guide them with supportive instructions.

Mini Lesson (5 mins):

  • Discuss: How did you feel when someone encouraged you?

Reflection (10 mins):

  • Students write or draw one way they will be a good team talker in future lessons.

Lesson 4: Fair Play Rules

Learning Intentions

  • Understand fair play rules
  • Evaluate what happens when rules are ignored

Success Criteria
✔ List key fair play rules
✔ Apply rules during all games

Warm-Up (5 mins):

  • “Simon Says Fair Play” – Add PE rules to Simon Says (e.g., “Simon says share the ball,” “Simon says line up quickly”).

Activity 1 (20 mins):

  • Game: “Magic Circle Dodge” – Everyone is in circles with balls. If tagged, students wait outside and rejoin when helped by a team cheer. Discuss: was it fair?

Discussion (10 mins):

  • What makes a game ‘unfair’? Brainstorm fair play rules. Display student-created “Fair Play Posters” around the gym.

Game Replay (10 mins):

  • Play “Magic Circle Dodge” again using newly discussed fair play rules.

Cooldown (5 mins):

  • Group stretch + applause for rule-followers.

Lesson 5: Stations of Strength

Learning Intentions

  • Explore different physical activity types
  • Understand how each one helps the body differently

Success Criteria
✔ Participate in all stations
✔ Describe how each exercise helps your body

Warm-Up (5 mins):

  • “Fruit Salad” Movement Game

Main Activity (30 mins):

  • Fitness circuit stations:
    • Agility Ladder
    • Yoga Stretch Zone
    • Mini Hurdles
    • Throw & Catch
    • Speed Cone Dash
    • Balance Beam
  • Students rotate every 3 minutes.

Learning Moment (5 mins):

  • Exit ticket: "Which station was your favourite and why?”

Cooldown (10 mins):

  • Partner breathing and relaxation activity.

Lesson 6: Follow the Leader

Learning Intentions

  • Develop leadership in movement
  • Practise taking turns and sharing responsibility

Success Criteria
✔ Take turns as leaders
✔ Model positive leadership behaviour

Warm-Up (10 mins):

  • “Back-to-Back” – quick team-building pairs challenge

Activity 1 (30 mins):

  • In small groups, students rotate through “Follow Me” laps:
Each round, a new leader shows their movement idea (e.g. zig-zag, skipping, animal walk). Others copy and give positive feedback.

Reflection (10 mins):

  • Leader Cards – Students write/draw what made a good leader today.

Lesson 7: Fit for the Future

Learning Intentions

  • Set personal and group physical activity goals
  • Explore how being active fits into daily life

Success Criteria
✔ Set a personal fitness goal
✔ Identify moments in your day for movement

Warm-Up (5 mins):

  • “Wake Up Wiggle” – sharp dynamic movements to energise

Main Activity (25 mins):

  • “Body Clock Challenge”: Each team plans a 24hr day with times for 3x5 min movement breaks. Use stories, drawings, and schedule cards.

Goal Setting (10 mins):

  • Students write a personal movement challenge for the week (“I will jump rope for 10 mins every day”).

Cooldown & Share (10 mins):

  • Sharing goals in circle time.

Lesson 8: All as One

Learning Intentions

  • Work as a team with assigned roles
  • Learn that all contributions are important

Success Criteria
✔ Take on a team role
✔ Contribute respectfully to team decisions

Warm-Up (5 mins):

  • “Squad Shuffle” – Move into randomised squads

Main Challenge (30 mins):

  • “The Obstacle Mission”: Team works to move all members through an obstacle using only a few preset strategies (e.g., balance beam together, human bridges). Roles: Navigator, Motivator, Leader, Rule Observer.

  • Student teams share what roles helped the most and how being included felt.

Lesson 9: Challenge Accepted!

Learning Intentions

  • Propose strategies to solve movement problems
  • Reflect on successful strategies

Success Criteria
✔ Work through a movement challenge
✔ Offer feedback to improve team approach

Warm-Up (5 mins):

  • “Shape Freeze” – Create shapes in teams on cue

Main Activity (30 mins):

  • PE Problem-Solvers: Multiple short challenges e.g.
    • Move 6 cones using only elbows
    • Cross entire court on 3 hula hoops
  • Record the strategies teams used and success levels.

Reflect & Improve (10 mins):

  • Students propose what they’d do differently next time. Teacher tracks language of collaboration and resilience.

Closing Stretch (5 mins):
