Overview

In this final lesson of Biomes and Food Futures, students apply their understanding of biomes, environmental change and human wellbeing to a realistic food-security challenge. They analyse food security through availability, access, utilisation and stability, then create and justify a sustainable action plan for Australia or an Asian context.

Lesson structure (60 minutes)

  1. 0–7 min · Hook: a food-security shock. Teacher displays the scenario question in the opening scenario slide and gives each pair one scenario: severe drought reduces harvests, food prices rise sharply, or imports are disrupted. Students identify who is affected, what may happen next and which part of food security is threatened first.

  2. 7–15 min · Build the framework.
