Lesson structure (60 minutes)

  1. 0–8 min · Hook: comparing food access. Teacher displays a comparison of the same food item, such as rice or bananas, in Australia and an Asian country, showing price, country of origin and availability through the comparison hook slides. Students complete a quick think-pair-share: “Why might the same food cost more, come from a different place or be unavailable?”

  2. 8–18 min · Direct teaching: supply, demand and security.
