Lesson structure (45 minutes)

  1. 0–5 min · Starter (Think–Pair–Share). Teacher shows two “adaptation” pictures (e.g. raised walkway near wetlands; ramp/handrail at an entry) and asks: “What change has been made to help people in this place?” Students think, then pair-share their ideas.

  2. 5–12 min · Mini-lesson: What is a human adaptation? Teacher explains that adaptations are changes people make to meet needs when the environment creates challenges (including safety, access, and resource use). Students listen and list examples on a class chart under “Environment helps us” and “Environment makes it hard”.
