Students will be successful when they:
Activity: "Ciao Countdown!"
Use a tambourine to gather attention. Begin by saying “Ciao, amici!” (Hello, friends!) and wave cheerfully. Tap the tambourine three times and ask students to repeat after you:
“UNO, DUE, TRE!” (1, 2, 3!)
Say each number slowly with enthusiasm and a gesture (e.g. hold up one finger for Uno).
Hold up each large flashcard (numbers 1–5) while saying the Italian number clearly:
“Questo è UNO!” (This is One)
Let students repeat each after you, mimicking your gestures.
Use finger puppets or gloves to animate each number.
Example:
Pop up one puppet: “UNO!”
Then two: “DUE!”
Let students echo and giggle – encourage joyful reactions.
Pass out toy fruits or shapes to five students. Count together in Italian as they bring them to the front:
Activity: Sing-Along Chant
Create a simple chant with rhythm, e.g.:
🎵 “Uno, due, tre – clap with me!
Quattro, cinque – shake your knee!” 🎵
Get the class to physically respond (e.g. clap or shake) as you chant each number.
Bring it back together with a cheerful group count:
After the lesson, consider:
