Simple Sentences - The Building Blocks
One complete thought Has a subject (who or what) Has a predicate (what they do) Example: The dog barks.
Simple Sentence Spotting
Look at these sentences: The cat sleeps. Birds fly high. My sister laughs. Which ones are simple sentences?
Compound Sentences - Joining Ideas
Two simple sentences joined together Uses connecting words: and, but, or, so Both parts can stand alone Example: The dog barks, and the cat meows.

Complex Sentences - Adding Detail
