Lesson Structure

Introduction (10 minutes)

1. Greeting and Warm-Up

   • Begin with a brief discussion on what students know about animals and habitats. Ask questions like, "What is a habitat?" and "Can you name some animals?". Record responses on the board.

2. Video Introduction

   • Show a short video (3-5 minutes) that introduces various animals and their habitats (selection could be taken from educational platforms about wildlife).

Main Activity (30 minutes)

Part 1: Habitat Exploration (15 minutes)

1. Animal and Habitat Matching
   • Hand out printed images of various animals and their habitats (e.g., a polar bear with an Arctic habitat). In pairs, students will discuss and match animals to their habitats using the images.
   • After 5 minutes, have a few pairs share their matches with the class.

Part 2: Outdoor Habitat Walk (15 minutes)

1. Outdoor Exploration
   • If outdoor space is available, have students conduct a “Habitat Scavenger Hunt.”
   • Give each student or pair a checklist of local animals and habitats (like birds, insects, trees, etc.) to observe while walking outside.
   • Ensure they observe and note down any animals they see and discuss what kind of habitat those animals might be in.

Conclusion (10 minutes)

1. Group Discussion

   • Regroup in the classroom and have a discussion about the animals and habitats they observed outside.
   • Discuss why these habitats are important and what might happen if they are destroyed.

2. Reflection Activity

   • Students will draw or write about their favourite animal and its habitat. They can present their drawings to the class.

Assessment

• Observe student participation in discussions and activities.
• Review the animal-habitat matching and scavenger hunt observations.
• Evaluate individual drawings or writings for understanding of the concepts.
