Teaching Instructions

Subject: history Strand: life, society, work and culture in the past. Strand unit: life in ireland since the 1950s The children will learn about aspects of life in the 1960s, including homes and people, leisure and past times, sport politics and medicine.

Focus on leisure and past times and sport as the main key learning for the five lessons. Your theme for the week is hobbies so this will interact with your theme. Note :Your Irish lesson is on Croke Park, a comparison could be done of games played then versus now. Pictures can be created for students to be able to see comparisons, and to see pictures of these elements in the 1960s in Ireland. Make sure all the context is of life in the 1960s particularly in Ireland. Include methodologies: talk and discussion, active learning, photos, and artifacts, use of ICT etc.

Link this in with an art lesson- come up with an art lesson that can be done as an integration and link with this topic on the topic of hobbies and Croke park
