This 45-minute Gaeilge lesson introduces third class students to vocabulary and simple sentences about their homes. Lesson Breakdown

1. Warm-Up & Introduction (5 minutes)

• Greet the student in Gaeilge: “Dia duit! Conas atá tú?”
• Show flashcards one by one for key rooms of the house.
• Play a quick “Tá... ann” game: Hold up a card and say “Tá an cistin ann.” Student repeats.
• Emphasise pronunciation with gentle correction.

2. Vocabulary Building (10 minutes)

• Introduce 6 key rooms/features: an seomra suí, an cistin, an seomra codlata, an seomra folctha, an ghairdín, an halla.
• Use the toy house/floor plan to point and say the vocabulary.
• Play “Where is it?” listening activity: Say “Cá bhfuil an cistin?” Student points to correct room.
• Use audio recording to reinforce listening.

3. Speaking Practice – My House (10 minutes)

• Ask “An maith leat do theach?” (Do you like your house?)
• Encourage student to say simple sentences:
  • “Tá séomra suí agam.” (I have a sitting room.)
  • “Tá gairdín agam.” (I have a garden.)
• Use sentence starters on mini whiteboard for support.
• Role-play: Student pretends to be a tour guide showing you through their house using vocabulary learned.

4. Creative Activity – Draw and Label (10 minutes)

• Provide a blank floor plan or house layout worksheet.
• Student colours the rooms and attempts to label them in Gaeilge.
• Celebrate any Gaeilge words attempted; help with spelling as needed.
• Ask the student to describe their drawing in Gaeilge.

5. Consolidation through Role-Play (7 minutes)

• Use animal/character toys to role-play moving through the house.
• Encourage student to narrate actions using simple phrases: e.g., “Tá an madra sa seomra suí.”
• Use questions for interaction: “Cá bhfuil an cat?”

6. Cool Down and Review (3 minutes)

• Sit together and recap the 6 rooms with flashcards.
• Quick question round: “Cad é seo?” (holding up card)
• Praise effort and progress warmly.
• End with the Gaeilge goodbye: “Slán agus beannacht!”
