This 40-minute class engages first-class students in developing their oral language, writing, and drawing skills by sharing and recording their weekend experiences. Lesson Outline

1. Warm-Up: Weekend Sharing Circle (10 minutes)

• Activity: In a circle, each student takes turns answering the prompt, “What did you do at the weekend?”
• Teacher Role: Facilitate, model full sentences (“At the weekend, I played in the park.”), encourage turn-taking and attentive listening. Use supportive questioning (“Who did you play with?”, “What game did you play?”) to extend responses.

2. Guided Writing Task: Weekend News (20 minutes)

• Instructions to Students:
  • Write 3 sentences in your news copy about your weekend.
  • Each sentence should tell something different you did or saw.
  • Remember to use capital letters, finger spaces, and full stops!
• Teacher Role: Circulate, offer individual prompts if needed (“Can you tell me one more thing about your weekend?”), assist with spelling and sentence structure gently.
• Differentiation: For emerging writers, allow oral dictation with teacher scribing. For advanced students, encourage adding adjectives (“I played a fun game.”).
• IE Curriculum Focus: Writing fluency, sentence formation, handwriting development, and confidence in written self-expression.

3. Drawing and Illustration (7 minutes)

• Activity: Draw a picture at the top or bottom of the page that matches your sentences. Encourage simple compositions illustrating people, places, or objects from their weekend story.
• Teacher Role: Support creativity, prompt observation (“What colours will you use? Where were you in your drawing?”), and foster pride in their artwork.

4. Sharing and Reflection (3 minutes)

• Activity: Invite a few volunteers to share their 3 sentences and picture with the class. Reinforce positive feedback, highlight vocabulary use, and celebrate effort.
• Teacher Role: Model active listening, use praise and encourage peer appreciation (“What do you like about their story?”).
