Communication orale

Bonjour et Bienvenue!

Curriculum Area and Level

Subject: French (Communication Orale)
Grade Level: Year 1
Curriculum Standard: Aligned with the Ontario French as a Second Language (FSL) Curriculum, Core French (A1.2 Level) from the Ministère de l’Éducation de l’Ontario.

This lesson develops oral communication skills, helping students listen actively and use basic vocabulary in spoken interactions.

Learning Objective (7 Min Goal)

By the end of this lesson, students will:
✔ Be able to greet each other and respond to greetings in French.
✔ Recognize and repeat simple phrases with proper pronunciation.
✔ Engage in a dynamic call-and-response game to reinforce oral skills.

Materials Needed

  • Flashcards with simple greetings (Bonjour, Salut, Ça va?, Au revoir)
  • A soft puppet or plush toy (acts as a talking partner)
  • A small ball (for interactive speaking game)
  • Teacher’s enthusiasm and gestures!

Lesson Breakdown (7 Minutes)

1. Bonjour, Ça Va? (1 Min – Warm-Up)

📢 Teacher's Role:

  • Start with exaggerated enthusiasm:

"BONJOUR classe! Comment ça va?" (Big gestures, eyes wide!)

  • Pause and encourage students to respond:
    • Ça va bien! (Thumbs up!)
    • Ça va mal... (Sad face)

🎤 Student Engagement:

  • Students repeat "Ça va?" and respond using facial expressions.

2. Magique Marionnette! (2 Min – Teacher Modeling)

🎭 Use a puppet (or soft toy) to ‘talk’ to the class:

  • Introduce:

"Voici Coco le Perroquet! Coco dit 'Salut!'"

  • Make the puppet ‘ask & answer’ greetings with the teacher.
  • Encourage students to copy the conversation:

    Coco: "Salut!"
    Students: "Salut!"
    Coco: "Ça va?"
    Students: "Ça va bien!"

🙋 Quick Pair Practice: Turn to a classmate & copy the puppet’s dialogue!

3. Jeu du Ballon (3 Min – Speaking Activity)

🎾 Interactive Game

  • Teacher tosses a small ball to a student and says:

    "Bonjour, Pierre! Ça va?"

  • Student catches and responds:

    "Bonjour! Ça va bien!"

  • Student throws to another classmate & asks the same question.
  • Repetition builds comfort in speaking aloud!

💡 PRO TIP: If students answer “Ça va mal”, teacher makes an exaggerated sad face and responds:

"Oh non! Un bisou magique!!!" (Pretend to blow a ‘magic kiss’ for fun!)

4. Clap & Repeat! (Final 1 Min Recap)

👏 Chant Together:

  • Teacher claps in rhythm and students repeat:

"Bonjour, salut, au revoir!" 🎶 (x2 times)
"Comment ça va? Ça va bien!" 🎶

🎉 End with big smiles & a “SUPER!” cheer!

Assessment (Informal Check-In)

✔ Did students answer when greeted?
✔ Could they ask “Ça va?” independently?
✔ Were they engaged in the speaking activity?

Adaptations

🌟 Extra Engaged?

  • Add “Comment tu t’appelles?” & names!
    🤗 Shy Students?
  • Let them whisper responses to the puppet first.

Teacher Reflection (Post-Lesson Notes)

✅ What worked?
✅ Who struggled & who excelled?
✅ Plan next lesson to include one new phrase (ex: "J’ai 6 ans!")

🎭 Voilà! A playful, confidence-building oral lesson—quick, fun, and packed with interaction!

🎉 Merci et à bientôt! 🇫🇷
