Day 1: Introduction to 2-Letter Blends

Objective:
Students will identify and pronounce common 2-letter blends and use them in simple sentences.
Materials:
- Flashcards with 2-letter blends (e.g., bl, gr, sw)
- Chart paper
- Markers
- Picture cards depicting words with 2-letter blends
- Whiteboard and markers
- Individual whiteboards and markers for each student
- "Blend it Up!" worksheet
Lesson Plan:
0-5 Minutes: Warm-Up
- Begin with a phonics song focusing on common letter sounds to engage the students.
- Briefly review single consonant sounds.
5-15 Minutes: Introduction to 2-letter Blends
- Explain what blends are in simple terms: "Blends are when two letters come together and you can still hear both sounds."
- Show flashcards of common 2-letter blends (bl, gr, sw, tr, st, etc.).
- Discuss and model how to blend the sounds together (e.g., "b" + "l" = "bl").
15-25 Minutes: Interactive Activity
- Divide the class into small groups.
- Hand out different picture cards to each group (e.g., picture of a grape for "gr").
- Ask students to say the name of the object and identify the blend at the start of the word.
- Have each group present their pictures and blends to the class.
25-35 Minutes: Practice on Individual Whiteboards
- Provide each student with a small whiteboard and marker.
- Call out a blend (e.g., "sp") and have students come up with a word that starts with that blend and write it on their whiteboard.
- Ask a few students to share their word and use it in a sentence.
35-40 Minutes: Worksheet and Review
- Hand out the "Blend it Up!" worksheet which contains activities like matching pictures to blends, finding blends in a word search, etc.
- Have students complete as much of the worksheet as they can in the remaining time.
- Briefly review the answers as a class.
Day 2: Reinforcing 2-Letter Blends

Objective:
Students will reinforce their understanding of 2-letter blends through games and literacy activities.
Materials:
- Blends Bingo cards
- Tokens or small counters
- Blends matching game cards
- Whiteboard and markers
- Sentence strips
Lesson Plan:
0-5 Minutes: Warm-Up
- Start with a quick review: Write several blends on the whiteboard and ask students to generate words that start with each blend.
- Praise and encourage responses to build confidence.
5-20 Minutes: Blends Bingo
- Explain the rules of "Blends Bingo."
- Distribute Bingo cards and tokens.
- Call out either blends (e.g., "cl") or words that use blends (e.g., "clap").
- Students place a token on the correct blend on their cards.
- Celebrate the winners and continue playing a few rounds.
20-30 Minutes: Blends Matching Game
- Students pair up and receive a set of blend cards and word cards.
- Students take turns matching a blend card to the beginning of a word card.
- Each pair reads the full word aloud once they make a match.
- Monitor and support partnerships as needed.
30-35 Minutes: Sentence Building Activity
- Provide sentence strips and markers.
- Students write sentences using at least one word with a blend on their sentence strip.
- Encourage creativity but ensure sentences are age-appropriate and sensible.
35-40 Minutes: Sharing and Review
- Students share their sentences with the class.
- Recap: Highlight key blends learned.
- Praise efforts and announce any upcoming activities or tasks.
