Lesson Objective

By the end of this 10-minute session, students will be able to:

1. Identify adjectives that describe nouns in simple sentences.
2. Use adjectives to create descriptive sentences about familiar objects.

• Pre-made Adjective Discovery Worksheet (attached below).
• Whiteboard and markers.
• A soft toy, an apple, and a piece of colourful fabric as props for tactile engagement.

Lesson Plan

1. Warm-Up (2 minutes)

• Teacher-led discussion: "What makes something exciting to talk about? Words like ‘big,’ ‘red,’ or ‘furry’ help make people imagine things, just as if they can see or feel them. Let's find those words today!"
• Show the class the three props (toy, apple, fabric), asking students to shout out words about how they look, feel, or smell. Write their responses on the board.

2. Introduction to Adjectives (3 minutes)

• Briefly define adjective: "Adjectives are words that describe a person, place, or thing. They make things more interesting for readers and listeners!"
• Use the examples from the warm-up: "For example, 'furry' describes this toy. 'Smooth' can describe fabric. And 'red' might describe the apple."
• Write three simple sentences with adjectives about the props:
  Example:
  • "The red apple looks yummy."
  • "The furry teddy feels soft."
  • "This pink scarf makes me happy."
  • Circle the adjectives in each sentence.

3. Interactive Activity (4 minutes)

Group Challenge: Complete the Adjective Discovery Worksheet (see below).

• Hand out the worksheet to each student.
• Use Think-Pair-Share: First, students will work independently, then discuss their answers with their neighbours before sharing back to the class.
• Monitor progress and guide students who need help.

4. Quick Wrap-Up (1 minute)

• Ask the students to shout out one adjective they used from their worksheet.
• Celebrate their creativity!
• Encourage them: “Try using adjectives at home tonight. Maybe say, ‘I have a happy dog,’ or, ‘I see a shiny car.’ You’ll sound just like an awesome writer!"
