Teaching Instructions

looking for spatial sense for the scope and sequence that the ontario KPRDSB board is currently in. I have done 3 lesson prior to this introducing 2D and 3D shapes and what some of the properties of these shapes are and what the vocabulary is and means. We have been identifying them. We are now looking at doing a center type lesson- where we do a 2D/3D bingo at one center, a 3D shape drawing for the second, and a net making station where we will build a rectangular prism and a cube. I think I need something to go about this maybe a small powerpoint or something? or what maybe my next lesson after this would be? Anything is helpful.

Curriculum Area: Spatial Sense (Grade 2–3)

Specific Ontario Math Curriculum Area: "Identify and describe 2D shapes and 3D figures by their geometric properties, and compare various shapes and figures, including congruent shapes"


Lesson Objectives

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

  1. Identify and name 2D shapes and 3D figures from their properties using appropriate vocabulary (e.g., faces, edges, vertices).
  2. Build and identify nets of simple 3D shapes (rectangular prism and cube).
