Begin the class by greeting the students and explaining the objectives of the lesson.

    • "Today, we are going to learn about prepositions of place and practice giving and following directions. We will also play some fun games to improve our speaking skills!"
  2. Warm-Up Activity (5 minutes)

    • Quick Brainstorm: Ask students to shout out different prepositions of place they already know. Write these on the whiteboard.
    • Example: at, on, in, under, behind, next to, between, in front of, above, below.

Mini-Lesson – 15 Minutes

  1. Introduction to Prepositions of Place (10 minutes)

    • Explain the concept of prepositions of place with simple definitions and examples. Write sentences on the board using at, on, and in.
      • At: Used for specific points (e.g., "He is at the door.")
      • On: Used for surfaces (e.g., "The book is on the table.")
      • In: Used for enclosed spaces (e.g., "She is in the room.")
    • Provide additional examples and ask students to create their own examples verbally.
  2. Interactive Whiteboard Activity (5 minutes)

    • Draw a simple map of a room or area on the whiteboard.
    • Verbally describe objects' locations using prepositions, and have students come up and place markers or objects on the map accordingly.

Guided Practice – 20 Minutes

  1. Preposition Direction Game (10 minutes)

    • Instructions:
      • Each student writes down three places in the classroom on separate pieces of paper, such as "the whiteboard," "under the table," etc.
      • One student picks a place and the other has to direct them verbally to that place using prepositions of place. Switch roles.
      • Example of directions: "Move towards the door, the marker is on the whiteboard."
  2. Role-Playing (10 minutes)

    • Students take turns role-playing scenarios where prepositions of place are used.
      • Example Scenarios:
        • Giving directions to a lost tourist.
        • Describing a treasure map.
        • Explaining the layout of their dream house.
    • Teacher provides feedback and corrects any mistakes gently.

Independent Practice – 15 Minutes

  1. Map Drawing and Description (15 minutes)
    • Each student draws a simple map of a fictional place on a piece of paper (it could be anything—a park, a room, or an island).
    • Students then write a short paragraph describing locations of different objects/places on their map using prepositions of place.
    • Once completed, students share their maps and descriptions with each other.

Final Review – 10 Minutes

  1. Recap and Q&A (5 minutes)

    • Recap the main points learned about prepositions of place.
    • Ask if there are any questions or areas where students need more clarification.
  2. Closing Game: Preposition Bingo (5 minutes)

    • Quickly play a game of bingo using preposition sentences. The teacher says a sentence and if it describes something on the student's list, they mark it off.

Conclusion and Homework Assignment – 5 Minutes

  1. Conclusion (2 minutes)

    • Praise students for participating and working hard.
    • Highlight some of the excellent uses of prepositions heard during the lesson.
  2. Homework Assignment (3 minutes)

    • Ask students to write a short story (5-6 sentences) using at least five different prepositions of place.
    • Remind them to bring their stories for the next class to share and discuss.

Assessment

  • Informal observation during role-playing and direction activities to gauge understanding and correct usage of prepositions.
  • Review and provide feedback on the homework assignment for correct use of prepositions of place.
