For my grade 2 class create a lesson plan for a shared book. Focus on specific sounds being "oa". Make it a phonics lesson please. Pick a book to read to the class not a long book but pass it off of specific sounds with "oa". Make the lesson plan template with including key competences, Learning objective, WALT, success criteria, equipmenet, teaching and learning sequence with introduction and body of lesson and conclusion. After the lesson is presented the students will do their daily 5 which we do the class reading then once that is done they do their worksheet for the reading, then i am doing guided reading groups for that time, if they are done their worksheet and guided reading groups they do their rainbow words, and read to self.
Students will identify and produce words containing the "oa" sound, enhancing their phonics skills and vocabulary.
Recognize and pronounce the "oa" sound in words while reading a shared text.
Engagement: Begin by discussing what makes sounds in words. Ask students if they can name any other sounds they know. Specifically lead into the “oa” sound by asking if anyone knows any words that use it (e.g., boat, coat).
Sound Focus: Write examples of “oa” words on the whiteboard (boat, toad, goat). Have students repeat the words after you, focusing on the “oa” sound.
Preview the Book: Introduce "Go Away, Big Green Monster!" by Ed Emberley. Explain that the story has some fun examples of sounds, including the “oa” sound that we’ll be listening for.
Shared Reading: Read the book aloud to the class. Emphasize the “oa” sound when it appears. Encourage students to clap or echo the sound whenever they hear it.
Interactive Discussion: After each page, stop and ask students if they heard any “oa” words. Write them down on the whiteboard as they are identified.
Activity: Hand out the worksheets that focus on identifying “oa” words. These will include a word search and fill-in-the-blank exercises using "oa" words found in the story.
Wrap-Up Discussion: Review the “oa” words identified during reading. Ask students why these words are important and how they can look for them in their reading.
Transition: Explain that this is just the beginning of their work with phonics. Transition into the Daily 5 activities, reminding them to focus on their “oa” words during their reading and worksheets.
By integrating engaging literature and interactive phonics practice, students will enhance their understanding of the “oa” sound, while developing a love for reading.
