Lesson Structure

Introduction (5 minutes)

• Explain the structure: three rounds of warm-ups, each increasing in complexity.

Activity Setup (3 minutes)

• Divide the students into three groups based on a quick assessment or recent test results (Low, Medium, High).
• Each group will work on problems corresponding to their level. Rotate problems among groups if time allows for additional practice.

Warm-up Rounds (36 minutes total, 12 minutes per round)

Round 1: Basic Arithmetic

• Level 1 (Low): Addition and subtraction under 50.
• Level 2 (Medium): Multiplication tables (up to 12x12) and simple division.
• Level 3 (High): Mixed operations with whole numbers, including order of operations (PEMDAS/BODMAS without brackets).

Round 2: Application of Fractions

• Level 1: Simplifying fractions.
• Level 2: Adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators.
• Level 3: Multiplying and dividing fractions.

Round 3: Ratios and Percentages

• Level 1: Understanding basic ratios (e.g., 2:1).
• Level 2: Calculating percentage of quantities.
• Level 3: Converting fractions to percentages and vice versa.

Conclusion and Reflection (10 minutes)

• Gather the students back together.
• Discuss what strategies worked well and where they found challenges.
• Highlight the importance of quick thinking in mathematics and how it can be applied in real-life scenarios.
• Assign a few problems from each level for homework to reinforce today’s learning.
