Lesson Structure:

Welcome and Settling (2 minutes)

• Karakia Tīmatanga (Opening Prayer).
• Quick introduction to the lesson's goals: Today, we will practice writing simple sentences using vocabularies that we often see around us in our daily lives.

Introduction to Vocabulary and Sentence Structures (5 minutes)

• Introduce 10 common nouns and 10 verbs related to everyday life at school and home. Use visual aids from classroom posters.
• Explain the basic sentence structure: Subject + Verb.

Guided Practice (5 minutes)

• Hand out worksheets that contain sentence starters such as "Kei te..." (I am ...), "I te..." (At the...) to guide their sentence formulation.
• Go through a couple of examples together as a class, constructing sentences on the whiteboard.

Independent Writing Exercise (6 minutes)

• Students use the remaining sentence starters and vocabulary from their sheets to write 5 new sentences on their own.
• Encourage them to think about what they like doing, items in their classroom, or their favourite parts of the school day.

Sharing and Discussion (2 minutes)

• Invite a few students to share their sentences aloud to promote confidence in using Te Reo Māori.
