Lesson structure (45 minutes)

  1. 0–5 min — Hook and visual lesson sequence Display a striking photograph of a Dunedin rock pool and ask: “What living things might be hiding here?” Open the introduction and hook slides and explain the visual sequence: look, sort, map, share. Students quietly notice and then share one observation with a partner.

  2. 5–12 min — Explicit teaching and modelling Show photographs and real, clean beach objects such as shells, seaweed, stones and driftwood.   6. 41–45 min — Review and formative check Revisit the success criteria and plenary slides. Students show fingers from one to three to indicate how confidently they can name, group and locate coastal life.
