  2. Objective Explanation: Tell students that the goal is to work together to move tennis balls from one hula hoop to another without using their hands.

Activity Instructions and Demonstration (3 Minutes)

  1. Divide Into Groups: Split the class into 5 groups, with about 5 students in each group.
  2. Set Up Stations:
    • Place a hula hoop at one end of each group's area (the starting point) and another hula hoop about 5 metres away (the ending point).
    • Scatter 4 tennis balls around the starting point hula hoop.
  3. Explain the Rules:
    • Students must move the tennis balls from the starting hoop to the ending hoop.
    • They can only use their feet or elbows—no hands allowed!
    • Each group should try to complete the task as quickly and carefully as possible.

Challenge (8 Minutes)

  1. Start the Challenge: Begin the activity by starting the timer. Encourage the students as they participate, offering guidance if necessary.
  2. Monitor and Assist: Walk around to monitor progress, ensuring rules are followed. Provide encouragement and remind them of the importance of teamwork.
  3. Time Check: Give time updates at the halfway point (4 minutes remaining) and at the one-minute mark.

Conclusion and Reflection (2 Minutes)

  1. Stop Activity: After 8 minutes, stop the activity and have students gather around.
  2. Reflect: Ask students what strategies they used and what they found challenging.
  3. Praise Teamwork: Highlight examples of good teamwork, communication, and problem-solving observed during the activity.

Debrief (Optional Extension if Time Permits)

  1. Discuss Real-Life Application: Explain how the skills used in this challenge (teamwork, communication, problem-solving) can be applied in real-life situations, such as in the classroom or during sports.

Assessment

  • Observation: Assess students’ ability to work together, follow instructions, and creatively solve the challenge without using their hands.
  • Participation: Ensure all students were actively involved and contributed to their group's efforts.
  • Reflection Feedback: Gauge students' understanding and reflections during the conclusion discussion.

Follow-Up

  • Next Lesson: Plan a follow-up activity that builds on teamwork skills, perhaps with a more complex challenge or different rules to increase difficulty.
