Lesson structure (30 minutes)

  1. 0–4 minutes – Engage and estimate Open with the hook and learning intention slides. Show a classroom object and ask: “Which tool would give us the most useful measurement: a ruler, metre ruler, or tape measure? Why?” Students make a quick estimate of its length and share with a partner.

  2. 4–10 minutes – Teacher modelling Use the measuring demonstration slides while modelling a ruler, metre ruler, and tape measure.   6. 27–30 minutes – Plenary and exit check Use the plenary slides to revisit the WALT and success criteria. Students orally complete: “Today I learned that accurate measuring means…” and show a thumb signal for the criterion they are most confident with. Collect the recording sheets for a quick formative assessment.
