32–40 minutes – Separate evidence from ideas Pause the practical work and ask groups to review their notes using the evidence sorting and discussion slides. Students underline observations once and circle inferences twice on their worksheet. Each group chooses one observation and one inference to share, explaining how they know which is which. Challenge students to improve vague statements such as “It changed” into “Small bubbles appeared and the liquid rose in the cup.”
40–47 minutes – Group reports and class discussion Groups briefly report one careful observation and one possible explanation. Record examples on the board in two columns: “We observed” and “We think”. Ask: “Which statements are directly supported by our senses or measurements?” and “What further evidence might help us explain the reaction?”
47–50 minutes – Plenary and clean-up Students complete the final reflection on the reaction observation recording sheet: “One observation I can support with evidence is…” and “One inference I made was…”. Collect worksheets, check that work areas are clean, and preview lesson 3, where students will use observations to develop an explanation.
