Lesson structure (60 minutes)

  1. 0–5 minutes – Revisit the mission Open the opening challenge and presentation goals and reread the question: How could a Pokémon and its habitat thrive responsibly? Invite the student to explain what “thrive responsibly” means, linking this to care, stewardship and wise use of resources.

  2. 5–15 minutes – Assemble the field-study portfolio Gather completed unit work, display materials and presentation equipment. Use the field-study portfolio organiser to check that the portfolio contains research notes, a habitat map, data and analysis, creative design, language work and a conclusion. The teacher supports the student to select the strongest evidence rather than adding unnecessary decoration.

  3. 15–25 minutes – Prepare the presentation The student arranges the portfolio, model or map in a logical order and rehearses a short explanation using the portfolio checklist and presentation sequence. The suggested sequence is: introduce the Pokémon, describe its habitat and adaptation, explain the map, interpret the data, propose responsible actions, and state the conclusion.

  4. 25–40 minutes – Present the integrated field study The student presents to the teacher or family member, using the model, map and portfolio as evidence. The audience listens for accurate science, clear links between evidence and conclusions, and responsible environmental thinking. Record brief notes against the rubric in the field-study portfolio organiser.

  5. 40–48 minutes – Defend conclusions through questions Ask two or three questions from the audience question prompts, such as: “Which evidence best supports your conclusion?”, “What might threaten this habitat?”, and “How could people help without causing further harm?” Encourage the student to refer to data, maps or research rather than guessing. If appropriate, the student may ask the audience one question about the presentation.

  6. 48–55 minutes – Give feedback and improve one element Discuss one successful feature and one improvement. The student makes a small, meaningful revision, such as adding a map label, clarifying a data statement, improving a spoken explanation or strengthening the responsible-action recommendation.

  7. 55–60 minutes – Final reflection Complete the reflection section of the field-study portfolio organiser. Return to the reflection and celebration slide and discuss: “What can I now do as a scientist that I could not do at the beginning of the unit?” Celebrate persistence, creativity, careful observation and responsible decision-making.
