Teaching Instructions

Monday 20th April 2026 9:10am- 10am Use WALT (We Are Learning To) for each lesson Include success criteria for each lesson

first week learning for a new entrant class (year 0- 5 year olds) who are all new to the classroom. children introducing themselves; my name is and how they are feeling. teacher will show them the toilets. informing/ modelling children about the daily routine and how to play independently. talk about mat manners and how to get teachers attention.

10:10-10:30 number recognition - show a YouTube video appropriate about numbers from 1-20. writing numbers on the whiteboard and asking children to count and recognise. counting 1-20 through the wooden number blocks

10:30-11:00am play time 11:00-11:10am eating time

11:10am-12:40pm showing children the important areas around school, eg junior toilets, office, sick bay, playgrounds, hall, rubbish bins etc

Reading topic (BSLA) oral language focus- together with others in groups. appropriate poem and books- talk about the parts of books eg front cover, backs cover, spine, pages, title. (prediction, what do you think this book is about?) follow up activity- follow up activity expectations- no scribbling drawing in pencils colouring within lines write your name and date gluing activity neatly into their topic books.

tracing letters activates for letter M expectation- good pencil grip/ control a-z recognition add YouTube video about phonics

12:40pm-1:10pm- Break 2 1:10pm- 1:20pm eating time

1:20pm-1:30pm- afternoon roll call, going over toilets, mat manners classroom rules etc

1:30pm- 2pm- handwriting activity- introduce letter m- first and last name date 2 lines of lower case letter m 2 lines of upper case letter M numbers 1-5 this is all with teacher support (high lighter)

2pm- 2:10pm- brain break activity

2:10-2:40pm- set up table with different activities- put timer and ask children to move in groups taking turn in all the activities. getting them used to rotation activity for future.

2:40-2:50pm tidy up classroom and sit on the mat 2:50-3pm- day reflection and get ready to go home
