A sentence tells us a complete idea It has different parts that work together Like building blocks - each part has a job Example: 'Te kurī ka inu i te wai' - The dog drinks the water

The subject tells us WHO is doing something Examples: te kurī (the dog), te tamaiti (the child) Always comes first in our sentence Can be a person, animal, or thing

Tūmahi - The Verb (WHAT IS HAPPENING)

The verb tells us what is happening Examples: ka kai (eating), ka inu (drinking), ka rere (running) Shows the action or what someone is doing Usually comes after the subject

The object tells us what is being affected Examples: te kai (the food), te wai (the water), te pōro (the ball) Usually comes at the end of the sentence Often has 'i te' or 'i a' before it
