Look at this problem: 4 + _ = 7 What number is hiding behind the box? How can we find out?
Strategy 1: Cover the Box
Put your finger over the missing number Say the problem out loud Think: What number makes this true? 4 + _ = 7 becomes '4 plus what equals 7?'
Let's Try It Together!
Problem: 4 + _ = 7 Cover the box with your finger Count on from 4: 5, 6, 7 The missing number is 3!
Using Tens Frames
