'He' means 'is/are' when describing someone 'tāku' = my (for people you're related to) 'tōku' = my (for things you possess) Example: 'He kaiako tāku whaea' (My mother is a teacher)

Work with a partner Take turns saying 'He... tāku...' about your whānau Use occupations: kaiako (teacher), rata (doctor), kaimahi (worker) Listen and respond to your partner

'Ko wai' means 'who is' 'tō' means 'your' Ko wai tō whaea? = Who is your mother? Ko wai tō matua? = Who is your father?

'Nō hea' means 'from where' Answer with 'Nō... tōku whānau' (My family is from...) Use place names: Nō Tāmaki Makaurau tōku whānau Can include iwi connections: Nō Ngāti Tuwharetoa
