Learning Sequence

[Let’s Play!] Stations Game: (If a larger space is available this would be an advantage.) Point out the Seasons Cards stuck round the room. Play music, the children move around the room until the music stops, they then go to a station. The teacher/one of the children who are out, randomly picks one of the Seasons Small Cards and calls it out in French, all who are at that station are out. Repeat until the last person left. Children use a word bank to answer in a sentence.

Children use a word bank to answer in a sentence. The last few questions are third person plural.

Holidays and Hobbies: The Seasons

Language Notes: • Unlike English, the names of months do not begin with a capital letter. Season names, like English, also do not begin with a capital letter. • With ‘printemps’ which starts with a consonant, we use ‘au’ to say ‘in’. With the other 3 seasons which start with a vowel or silent letter ‘H’, we use ‘en’ to say ‘in’. • In this lesson, the conjugation of the verb être, uses the third person plural – sont, e.g. Avril et mai sont au printemps. • The verb être is one of a few common but highly irregular French verbs, this is how it conjugates in the present tense: • je suis [I am] • tu es [you are] singular • il/elle est [he/she is] • nous sommes [we are] • vous êtes [you are] plural • ils/elles sont [they are] masculine ils, feminine elles
