Consent: Always Ask, Always Respect
Understanding permission in everyday life Learning to respect boundaries Year 7 - Personal, Social, Health Education
What Does Consent Mean?
Consent = Permission Asking before any kind of touch Waiting for a clear 'YES' It's about respect and safety
Consent Traffic Light System
GREEN = 'Yes, that's okay' AMBER = 'I'm not sure' RED = 'Stop, I don't want to' Practice using these signals
Types of Touch That Need Permission
Hugs and cuddles Holding hands High-fives and handshakes Sitting close to someone Any physical contact
Think About This...
If someone doesn't answer when you ask for permission, what does that mean? Is silence the same as saying 'yes'?
No Answer = No Consent
Silence does NOT mean 'yes' If someone doesn't respond, respect that Never assume someone wants to be touched When in doubt, don't
Reading Body Language
Look for comfortable vs uncomfortable signs Relaxed shoulders vs tense body Smiling vs looking away Leaning in vs stepping back
Verbal Ways to Say No
'No, thank you' 'I don't want to' 'Please stop' 'I'm not comfortable with that' 'Maybe another time'
Non-Verbal Ways to Say No
Shaking head Stepping away Crossing arms Looking uncomfortable Avoiding eye contact
Remember This
'Consent can be taken back at ANY time - even if someone said yes before, they can change their mind'
Practice Asking for Permission
'Can I sit next to you?' 'Would you like a hug?' 'Is it okay if I hold your hand?' 'May I share your book?'
Consent Rules - Do and Don't
