Folding Shapes into Equal Parts
Year 2 Maths Halves, Quarters, and Thirds Learning Through Folding and Colouring

What Are Equal Parts?
Equal parts are the same size Each part must be exactly the same When we fold shapes, we make equal parts This helps us understand fractions

Let's Fold Paper into Halves!
Take your square paper Fold it in half carefully Make sure the edges line up Colour one half blue

How Many Equal Parts Make a Half?
Look at your folded paper Count the parts you can see Are they the same size? What do we call each part?

Making Quarters by Folding
Start with your half-folded paper Fold it in half again Now you have 4 equal parts Each part is called a quarter

Halves vs Quarters
{"left":"1 whole = 2 halves\n1 whole = 4 quarters","right":"Halves are bigger than quarters\nQuarters are smaller than halves"}

Challenge: Folding into Thirds
This is trickier than halves and quarters! Fold your paper into 3 equal parts Each part is called a third Colour 1 third, 2 thirds, then all 3 thirds

Remember This Important Rule
"For fractions to work, all parts must be equal in size!"
