Long Ago in Ancient Times
Jewish people lived in a land called Judea They had a special temple where they worshipped God In the temple was a golden menorah that burned day and night The light was very important to their faith

The Problem Begins
A powerful king took control of the land He said Jewish people could not worship in their own way He wanted everyone to follow his religion instead This made the Jewish people very sad and worried

The Brave Maccabees
A family called the Maccabees decided to fight back They wanted freedom to worship God in their own way It was a very difficult battle against a strong army But they believed freedom was worth fighting for

The Miracle of the Oil
Let's Light Our Menorah!
Count the eight candles on the menorah Each night of Hanukkah, one more candle is lit The light reminds people of the miracle Families say special prayers and celebrate together
