What is Rhetoric?
The art of persuasive speaking and writing Used everywhere: advertising, politics, social media Essential skill for effective communication

Ethos: The Appeal to Credibility
Establishes the speaker's trustworthiness and authority Built through expertise, experience, or moral character Example: 'As a doctor with 20 years of experience...' Makes audience trust the source before the message

Pathos: The Appeal to Emotion
Persuades by evoking strong feelings Uses emotions like sympathy, fear, excitement, or anger Example: 'Every day, thousands of animals suffer...' Creates emotional connection between audience and message

Logos: The Appeal to Logic
Uses facts, statistics, and logical reasoning Provides evidence to support claims Example: 'Studies show recycling reduces landfill waste by 40%' Appeals to audience's rational thinking
