Mastering Sevens: Interactive Board Game
Year 5 Mathematics Multiplication & Division Facts 40-Minute Interactive Lesson
Learning Objectives
Recall the 7 times table and division facts fluently Understand the inverse relationship between multiplication and division Apply facts accurately in timed gameplay scenarios Use reasoning to self-correct through immediate feedback
Success Criteria
I can answer 7 times table questions correctly within the time limit I can solve division problems related to the 7 times table accurately I can explain how multiplication and division are inversely related I respond to feedback and correct errors confidently
Quick Warm-Up: 7 Times Table Chant
Chant together: 7×1=7, 7×2=14, 7×3=21... Say the related division fact for each Example: 7×6=42, so 42÷7=6 Remember: multiplication and division are inverse operations
Game Rules & Setup
Roll two dice: standard die (1-6) + special 7× die (7,14,21,28,35,42) Answer multiplication question correctly → move forward Then solve the inverse division question to keep position 30 seconds per question for added challenge Incorrect answers mean no forward movement or moving backward
Differentiation Strategies
{"left":"Extra Support: Use visual aids and manipulatives, Allow guess-check-correct cycles, Start with division questions first","right":"Advanced Learners: Include 2-digit multipliers (7×12), Try missing number problems (42÷?=7), Shorter time limits for extra challenge"}
Let's Play! Game Time
25 minutes of interactive gameplay Celebrate successes and learn from mistakes Verbalize the inverse relationship after each question Teacher provides real-time feedback and encouragement
Reflection & Assessment
Explain how multiplication and division by 7 are connected Share two examples showing inverse relationships Celebrate achievements and effort Discuss how playing games helps improve speed and confidence
