PE Warm-Ups Made Simple
A Guide for Year 6 Students Learning to Lead Safe and Effective Warm-Ups

WALT - We Are Learning To
Understand why warming up is important before exercise Design a warm-up with pulse raising, mobility, and stretching Lead peers through a safe warm-up routine Observe and adjust based on our group's needs

What Do You Think?
What happens to your body when you start exercising without warming up? Can you think of any warm-up exercises you've done before?
What is a Warm-Up?
A warm-up prepares your body for exercise It gradually increases your heart rate Helps prevent injuries during activity Makes your muscles and joints ready to move

Why Warm-Up? The Benefits

Three Types of Warm-Up Exercises
{"left":"Pulse Raising: Star jumps, jogging on spot, gentle running\nMobility: Arm circles, leg swings, neck rolls","right":"Stretching: Reaching up high, touching toes, calf stretches"}

Design Your Warm-Up Challenge
Work in groups of 3 Choose 2 pulse raising exercises Choose 2 mobility exercises Choose 2 stretching exercises Plan a 5-minute routine

Leading a Safe Warm-Up
Speak clearly so everyone can hear Demonstrate each exercise first Check that everyone is following along Start slowly and build up intensity Watch for anyone struggling and help them

Time to Lead!
Each group leads their warm-up Other groups follow along Give positive feedback Think about what worked well

Remember
A good warm-up is the foundation of safe exercise! Cool-downs are just as important - they help your body recover properly
