Smart Choices: Consequences and Decision-Making
Year 7 PSHE Lesson 5: Navigating Life's Challenges Understanding how our choices shape our future

Learning Intentions
By the end of this lesson I can identify a good choice and its impact Developing: I can explain why a choice is important Emerging: I can share a choice I made recently

Reflect on Your Recent Choices
Think silently for 1 minute about a decision you made recently It could be small (what to have for breakfast) or bigger (how to spend your weekend) Share with your partner: What choice did you make and why? We'll ask for 2-3 volunteers to share with the class

What Makes a Choice 'Good'?
A good choice is positive for yourself and/or others It considers the consequences before acting It reflects your personal values and beliefs It shows respect for yourself and others Even when it's difficult, you feel proud of your decision

Quick Choice Challenge
I'll read out some scenarios Vote with your hands: Good choice or Not-so-good choice? Be ready to explain your reasoning! Remember: think about consequences and feelings

Decision-Making Process

Scenario Analysis - Choice Pathways
Work in pairs - each group gets 2-3 scenario cards Use your 'Choice Pathways' worksheet to map out: What choices are available? What are the possible consequences (positive and negative)? Which choice would you make and why? Be ready to present one scenario to the class
Real-Life Scenarios: What Would You Do?
{"left":"Your best friend wants to copy your homework\nYou see someone being bullied but you're scared to help\nYou have a choice between studying for a test or going to a party","right":"Your friends are making fun of someone's appearance\nYou found someone's phone and no one is around\nYou're offered a chance to cheat on an important exam"}

Remember This
The choices we make today shape the person we become tomorrow Every decision is a chance to practice being the person you want to be It's okay to make mistakes - that's how we learn and grow
