A fraction shows parts of a whole The whole is split into equal parts Example: 6 sweets split into 2 equal groups Each group has 3 sweets - that's half!

Remember: Finding the Whole
When you know a fraction part... Multiply by the bottom number (denominator) 1/3 of something = 4, so whole = 4 × 3 = 12 1/4 of something = 6, so whole = 6 × 4 = 24
