Teaching Instructions

Students will create a family portrait for the Square 1 Art fundraiser. Students will focus on using shapes to draw a person. After students build on their skills to build each body parts of a person using shapes, students will focus on drawing each person in their family. I will discuss different skin tone colors and hair color so that students can make their families with their unique differences. Students will show off their family portraits with the class and talk about their family. We use “I Can “ statements for our objectives. Students can create a family portrait. Students can use Charleston create a person. Students can use their best craftsman skills. Students can take their time and Follow directions. Materials: white paper, black sharpies. Skin tone colored crayons. Regular crayons. Duration. This lesson will take 5 class periods with each class period being 50 minutes each.
