Reading Support Tips:

• Read slowly and carefully • Highlight key words • Ask for help if needed • Use a ruler to follow lines

In 1933, Adolf Hitler became the leader of Germany. His political party was called the Nazi Party. Germany was struggling after World War One. Many people had no jobs and little money.

Hitler promised to make Germany strong again. He blamed Germany's problems on certain groups of people, especially Jewish people. This was wrong and unfair.

The Nazis took control of Germany step by step. They banned other political parties. They controlled newspapers and radio. People who disagreed were arrested.

The Nazis created terrible laws against Jewish people and other groups. They took away their rights. Millions of innocent people were killed in what we call the Holocaust.

In 1939, Germany started World War Two by attacking Poland. The war lasted until 1945. Many countries fought against Nazi Germany. Millions of people died in the war.

In 1945, Germany was defeated. Hitler died and the Nazi government ended. The world learned about the terrible crimes the Nazis had committed.
