In this final lesson of Design, Model and Make, students present their completed design, model or digital portfolio to peers. Lesson structure (60 minutes)

  1. 0–5 min · Showcase preparation. Teacher opens the showcase hook and success-criteria slides with the question, “How can we prove that a design is successful?” and explains that students will present evidence rather than simply display a finished object. Students organise their design, model, prototype or digital portfolio and prepare a 60–90 second explanation.

  2. 5–12 min · Presentation briefing. Teacher models a concise presentation structure on the presentation structure slide: identify the user and need; explain the response to the brief; describe material, tool and process choices; show evidence of testing or iteration; judge the outcome against criteria; and name one improvement. Teacher revisits expectations for respectful listening, accurate claims and safe handling of models. Students use the structure to rehearse with a partner and check that their evidence is ready.

  3. 12–30 min · Peer showcase rotations. Teacher arranges five groups of five students and directs each group to use a separate table or presentation area. Students present in turn within their group, while listeners record one strength and one evidence-based question or suggestion on the prototype testing feedback template. Students presenting answer questions and refer to their brief, criteria, sketches, testing notes or portfolio evidence.

  4. 30–42 min · Feedback and professional discussion. Teacher pauses the rotations and asks students to discuss which feedback is most useful and why, using the peer-feedback discussion slides. Students select two comments that are specific, feasible and connected to the design criteria, then explain to their group whether they would accept, adapt or reject each suggestion. They must justify their decision rather than treating all feedback as equally suitable.

  5. 42–52 min · Whole-class spotlight. Teacher invites five students, ensuring a range of design contexts and outcomes, to give brief presentations to the class. After each presentation, the teacher asks one criterion-focused question, such as “What evidence shows this material was appropriate?” or “How could the design become more sustainable?” Students listen for examples of Respect, Integrity and Excellence and contribute one precise observation when called upon.

  6. 52–60 min · Individual evaluation and exit reflection. Teacher distributes the design showcase evaluation and reflection sheet and displays the final prompts on the evaluation and values reflection slides. Students rate their outcome against the brief and criteria, cite evidence, reflect on one value demonstrated and identify one improvement for a future project. They submit the sheet and feedback template before leaving.
