Warm-Up Activity (5 minutes)

Activity: Counting and Number Recognition

1. Flashcards Game: Show flashcards with numbers 0-10. Ask students to shout the number on the card.
2. Whole Class Counting: As a group, count aloud from 1 to 10 and back from 10 to 1. Emphasize the number 10.

Main Activity (15 minutes)

Lesson Part 1: Introduction to Friends of 10 (7 minutes)

1. Exploring the Concept:

   • Show a ten-frame on the whiteboard.
   • Place 10 counters or objects on the table.
   • Explain to students that we are going to find pairs of numbers that add up to 10. These pairs are called "friends of 10."

2. Hands-On Activity:

   • Distribute ten-frames and counters to each student.
   • Demonstrate how to make the number 10 using different combinations (e.g., 1+9, 2+8, etc.), and have students follow along on their own ten-frames.
   • Encourage students to count the counters out loud to reinforce understanding.

Lesson Part 2: Group Activity - Finding Friends of 10 (8 minutes)

1. Interactive Song/Video:

   • If available, play a song or video about "Friends of 10" to make the activity engaging.

2. Pair Work:

   • Divide students into pairs.
   • Give each pair a set of flashcards with numbers 0-10.
   • Ask them to find pairs of cards that add up to 10, placing them on their ten-frame to check.
   • Remind students to count out loud and check each other's work.

Closing Activity (5 minutes)

Consolidation

1. Discussion:

   • Bring the class back together and discuss the different pairs they found.
