Lesson structure (60 minutes)

  1. 0–5 min · Hook and retrieval. Teacher displays the opening food-safety image and retrieval questions showing a packed lunch left in a warm car and asks, “What could make this food unsafe?” Students independently list three risks, then compare answers with a partner.

  2. 5–15 min · Direct teaching: safety essentials. Teacher uses the food-safety teaching slides to revisit hand hygiene, clean equipment, cross-contamination, the temperature danger zone, chilling, sealed packaging and safe transport; clarify that perishable food should be kept cold and that students should follow local food-safety guidance. Teacher leads a brief comparison of the plans and returns to the plenary questions: “Which control measure mattered most?” and “How can safe food choices also reduce waste?” Students complete the final worksheet response: identify one high-risk mistake from the original plan, explain its consequence, and state the most effective improvement. Collect worksheets as the exit assessment.
