  5. 26–31 min · Living things and places. Bring students together with objects returned to the collection trays. Refer to the nature detective introduction slides to prompt discussion: “Which objects came from a plant?” “Where might an insect find food, water or shelter?” “How does the garden help a plant or animal?” Students contribute ideas about air, water, food and shelter, while the teacher records a simple class table under headings such as “plant,” “animal,” “need” and “garden feature.”

  6. 31–35 min · Share and exit reflection. Invite two or three groups to show a rubbing or explain their sorting rule. Students complete the final box on the nature detective recording sheet by drawing one garden feature and finishing the sentence, “The garden helps a living thing by ______.” Close with the nature detective reflection slide and revisit the opening predictions.
