Australia's Climate Zones Explored
Discovering the different climates across our country Year 3 Geography
What do you remember about climate zones?
Think about what we learned before What are the main climate zones in the world? How do we identify them on maps?
Reading Climate Zone Maps
Colors show different climate zones Each color represents temperature and rainfall patterns Maps help us understand weather around the world Australia has its own special climate map
The Tropical Zone
Found in northern Australia Very hot and humid Lots of rainfall Close to the equator gets more direct sunlight
The Subtropical Zone
Located in the middle of Australia Hot but drier than tropical zones Less direct sunlight than tropical areas Often contains deserts and grasslands
The Temperate Zone
Found in southern Australia Milder temperatures - not too hot or cold Moderate rainfall Furthest from the equator
Climate Zone Detective
Look at the pictures your teacher shows you Decide which climate zone each picture shows Give reasons for your choice Think about temperature, rainfall, and vegetation
Comparing Climate Zones
{"left":"Tropical zones are much hotter than temperate zones\nSubtropical zones are drier than tropical zones\nTemperate zones have the mildest weather","right":"Desert areas get very little rainfall\nTropical areas get the most direct sunlight\nEach zone has different types of plants and animals"}
Create Your Own Climate Map
