Lesson Sequence

1. Warm-up and Engagement (5 minutes)

• Activity: Quick Physical Warm-Up – "Space Walk"
  • Children walk slowly like astronauts on the moon, then speed up like zooming comets.
  • Encourage them to use imaginative movements and sounds.
• Purpose: Energise students, set the dramatic tone and thematic context.

2. Introduction: What is a Character? (5 minutes)

• Teacher Explanation: Briefly explain what a character is in drama—someone we pretend to be, with feelings, thoughts, and stories.
• Show cosmic images, asking:
  • "What sort of characters might live in space?"
  • Prompt students to brainstorm cosmic beings (aliens, space explorers, sentient planets).
• Record key ideas on the whiteboard.

3. Character Creation Brainstorm (10 minutes)

• Hand out the Character Worksheet with sections for:
  • Name: Cosmic or space-themed.
  • Appearance: What do they look like? (colour, size, special features)
  • Traits: Friendly, curious, brave, shy etc.
  • Background: Where do they come from? What’s their story?
  • Motivation: What do they want or need?

4. Sharing and Reflection (8 minutes)
