A highly interactive 30-minute oral Gaeilge lesson designed for 2nd and 3rd class students to practise asking and answering questions about themselves (mé féin). Lesson Structure

1. Warm-Up (5 minutes)

• Greet pupils with "Dia dhuit".
• Brief, lively whole-class recap of personal info vocabulary using flashcards (ainm, aois, caitheamh aimsire).
• Model the example questions and answers with the teacher acting as a partner first:
  • “Cad is ainm duit?” — “Is mise [Name].”
  • “Cén aois thú?” — “Tá mé [Age] bliain d’aois.”
  • “Cad é do chaitheamh aimsire?” — “Is maith liom [Hobby].”
• Engage pupils to repeat, focusing on correct pronunciation and intonation.

2. Paired Interview Activity (20 minutes)

• Arrange pupils into pairs (buddy them carefully, mixing confident and less confident pupils).
• Give each pair a prompt card showing the three questions in Gaeilge.
• Explain the activity: One pupil will ask the three questions while the other answers, then they will swap roles.
• Circulate the class, listen, and provide gentle correction/support as needed.
• Encourage pupils to speak clearly and to use full sentences.
• Optional extension: Pupils may add a follow-up question or comment (e.g., “Is maith leat é?” (Do you like it?)) if time allows.

3. Group Reflection and Feedback (5 minutes)

• Invite a few pairs to demonstrate their interview to the whole class.
• Give positive feedback highlighting fluency and correct use of Gaeilge.
• Pose a quick classroom question to recap learning: “Cén aois atá agat?” or “Cad é do chaitheamh aimsire?” with volunteers answering.
• Award “Smiles” or stickers to pupils showing great effort and confidence.

Differentiation
