Lesson Structure

1. Introduction (5 minutes)

• Warm-Up Activity: Greet students in Gaeilge. Begin with a quick review of vocabulary learned in previous lessons through a rapid-fire Q&A.
  • Example Questions: “Cad a chuaigh tú ag siopadóireacht dó?” (What did you go shopping for?)
• Transition: Inform students that today they will share their experiences and create shopping lists.

2. Vocabulary Review (10 minutes)

• Group Activity: Divide students into pairs. Hand out flashcards with vocabulary written in Gaeilge. They must match words with images related to shopping (e.g., bread = arán, milk = bainne).
• Circulate the room to assist and ensure engagement.

3. Personal Reflection (10 minutes)

• Discussion: Bring the class back together. Ask students to share their experiences:
  • “Conas a bhí do thaithí ag siopadóireacht?” (How was your experience shopping?)
• Encourage them to use vocabulary learned previously. Write key phrases and vocabulary on the whiteboard as students share.

4. Creating Shopping Lists (10 minutes)

• Handout Activity: Distribute shopping list templates to each student. Instruct them to create a list of 5 items they often buy or would want to buy. They must write these items in Gaeilge.
• Peer Review: Pair students to share their lists with one another and provide constructive feedback.

5. Role-Playing Scenarios (8 minutes)

• Role Play Setup: Divide students into small groups of 3-4. Assign roles: customer, shopkeeper, and items.
• Students will practice common shopping dialogues, using their lists as scripts.
  • Example Dialogue:
    • Customer: “An bhfuil bainne agat?” (Do you have milk?)
    • Shopkeeper: “Tá bainne agam.” (I have milk.)

6. Wrap-Up and Reflection (2 minutes)

• Group Reflection: Ask students to reflect on what they learned. Prompt discussion on why shopping vocabulary is useful.
• Highlight any students’ exciting experiences or lists.

Assessment and Evaluation

• Formative Assessment: Observe participation during discussions and role-plays. Note usage of vocabulary and student engagement.
• Peer Assessment: Students provide feedback to each other on their shopping lists.
