Lesson Outline

1. Introduction (5 minutes)

• Greet the students with "Dia daoibh!".
• Introduce the theme of the week: Water (Uisce).
• Ask students what they know about swimming (ag snámh) and leisure activities (caitheamh aimsire).
• Use the board to scribe their responses.

2. Vocabulary Introduction (10 minutes)

• Show flashcards one by one, clearly pronouncing each word:
  • "uisce" (water)
  • "bá" (pool)
  • "snámh" (swimming)
  • "crann" (float)
  • "maide snámha" (swimming aid)
  • "bróga snámha" (swim shoes)
• Encourage students to repeat after you to promote correct pronunciation.
• Engage students by asking them to link each vocabulary word with a gesture or action associated with it, enhancing kinesthetic learning.

3. Interactive Vocabulary Game (15 minutes)

Game: "Sláinte! (Cheers!)"

• Organize students in a circle.
• Start by holding up a flashcard and saying the word in Gaeilge, prompting the next student to repeat the word.
• If a student hesitates or gets it wrong, they must do a funny swimming action (like paddling or diving) to keep the game lively.
• Continue until all words have been reviewed, providing positive reinforcement and corrections where necessary.

4. Hands-on Activity (5 minutes)

• Introduce a mini water play session.
• Fill the small plastic swimming pool with water and float some toys representing the vocabulary words (e.g., floats for "crann").
• Students can practice using the words as they interact with the toys. For example, “An bhfuil an crann uisce?” (Is the float in the water?).
• Encourage teamwork and communication as students engage with each other.

5. Reflection and Wrap-Up (5 minutes)

• Gather students in a circle and ask them to share one new word they learned today.
• Reinforce vocabulary by writing a simple sentence using one of the new words on the board.
• For homework, have students draw a picture of them swimming or playing in water and label it with at least three new words in Gaeilge.
