Lesson Overview

In this lesson, students will create and present a short presentation about an animal they admire from a television show. The focus will be on using Gaeilge vocabulary, enhancing their speaking skills, and fostering confidence in public speaking.

Lesson Structure

Introduction (5 minutes)

Main Activity (35 minutes)

Step 1: Selecting Animals (5 minutes)

• Each student chooses their favorite animal from a TV show.
• Encourage them to think about why they like this animal (character traits, actions, etc.) and how they can express this in Gaeilge.

Step 2: Research & Preparation (10 minutes)

• Students will discuss their chosen animals in pairs, using prompts on the board to guide their conversation, such as:
  • "Cad is ainm don ainmhí?"
  • "Cén cineál ainmhí é?"
  • "Cad a dhéanann sé/sí?"
• Provide visuals (books, clips) for students to reference.

Step 3: Creation of Presentations (10 minutes)

• Students will create a simple visual aid (poster/slideshow) that includes their animal's name, a picture, and 3-4 sentences describing it in Gaeilge.
• Encourage them to be creative and colourful in their presentations.

Step 4: Practice Presenting (10 minutes)

• In pairs, students practice presenting their work to each other, using the visuals they created.
• Walk around the classroom, providing feedback and support.

Presentation (5 minutes)

• Invite students to present their work to the class.
• Allow for questions from their peers after each presentation to promote interactive discussion.

Conclusion (5 minutes)

• Wrap-Up: Congratulate all students on their presentations and efforts.
• Reflection: Ask students to share what they learned about their classmates’ favorite animals and any new vocabulary they picked up.
• Feedback: Provide positive reinforcement and ask students to share how they felt presenting in Gaeilge.
