Lesson Structure

Starter Activity (5 minutes) – Quick Fire Recall

1. Teacher greets students in Irish and asks engaging starter questions related to environment:
   • Cén fadhb is mó timpeall an domhain? (What is the biggest environmental issue in the world?)
   • Cén tionchar atá ag athrú aeráide ar Éireann? (How is climate change affecting Ireland?)
2. Students pair up and discuss their thoughts in Irish for 2 minutes.
3. Random selection of 2–3 students to share their thoughts with the class.

Activates prior knowledge and warms up students for the main activity.

Main Activity (20 minutes) – Video & Discussion

Part 1 – Video (5 minutes)

• Teacher plays a short video (~3 minutes) in Irish, discussing climate change, pollution, and potential solutions.
• Students take notes in Irish on key points presented in the video.
• Teacher provides a worksheet with key questions such as:
  1. Cad iad na príomh-fhadhbanna atá pléite sa fhíseán? (What key problems are discussed in the video?)
  2. Cén tionchar a bhíonn ag an athrú aeráide ar dhaoine agus ar ainmhithe? (How does climate change affect people and animals?)

Part 2 – Group Discussion (15 minutes)

1. Students form groups of 5 and discuss their answers in Irish.
2. They work together to create a collective ‘Top 5 Environmental Issues’ list in Irish.
3. Teacher moves between groups, prompting deeper discussions and encouraging rich vocabulary use.
4. Each group elects a member to present their list to the class. (3-minute presentations)
