📚 What is an Appositive?

An appositive is a noun or noun phrase that renames or explains another noun right beside it. Appositives are usually set off by commas.

Example: My teacher, Mrs. Johnson, loves to read. (Mrs. Johnson renames "my teacher")

Example: The movie, a thrilling adventure, kept us on the edge of our seats. (a thrilling adventure describes "the movie")

Small Group Activity: Work with your group to identify the appositive in each sentence. Underline the appositive and circle the noun it renames.
